Education: All the usual childhood
forms of dance, ballet, tap, jazz and so on paved the road early for the
entrance of country dancing in 1991. It soon became
a major passion in her life. She was fortunate
to come under the wings of the owner of a local country dance studio who
offered to train her to instruct. And a new way
of life began. Education for all the couple dances:
Two step, waltz, east & west coast swing, hustle,
cha and polka continued throughout the years at such places as Country
Dazzle Dance Studio, Double B Dance Ranch Studio and many UCWDC certified
instructors such as Vickie Vance-Johnson & Kevin Johnson, Phyllis
Whipple, Royston & Baldovi, Jeff & Mary Hill, Jayson & Deby
Booth, Rex Jones, and many more. Butch Phillips
was her primary instructor for all couple dancing. The
Double B Studio was also a ballroom dance studio where technique and style
were stressed along with the dance patterns. Line
dance instructors have included such people & places as Country Dazzle,
Max Perry, Pedro Machado, Larry Bass, Jo Thompson and so on. She has been blessed to come into contact with many of
the great instructors in both line dance and couple dancing.
Instruction:
She has been instructing since the early
nineties for such places as Country Dazzle, City of Tampa & Hillsborough
County Recreation Depts., Academy of Holy Names High School, Country At
Heart Teen Club, Six Shooters Dance Hall, and was the full-time dance
instructor at the Round Up in Tampa, Fl for approx. 10+ years. She has also taught at area events and workshops.
Dance Teams:
Over the years she has been a member of
several dance teams and the head of her own, Country Stars by Paula. She choreographed many of her team’s routines and
dances, which presented line as well as couple dance routines. She put together performances,exhibitions and other functions
for such places as the Florida State Fair, Strawberry Festival, Lady Anderson
Cruises, Disney’s Fort Wilderness/River Country, WQYK Radio, Harbor
Island Health Club, Sugar Festival, USF, Seminole Hardrock Casino, etc.
Competition:
A UCWDC competitor for several years,
competing in classic and showcase Pro/Am divisions in two step, waltz,
cha, east and west coast swing with Butch Phillips.
